Stabbing Incident

Stabbing Incident

Inv. P Pevehouse

Jenny Lind, Arkansas— On 7-3-2013 at around 5:30 pm a 911 call came in with a female subject stating her boyfriend was in her car and he had been stabbed.  The female told dispatchers that she and the victim were in the parking lot of the Jenny Lind Express Convenience Store.

Deputies responded to the scene to find a male subject in his thirties with knife wounds to his neck area.  The whereabouts of the assailant was unknown at the time. Emergency medical workers responded as well.  The subject was transported via ambulance to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith.

Information on the stabbing began to develop.  It was learned by investigators that the victim had been stabbed in his neck by a Paul Robert Buikema of the Jenny Lind area.  The altercation had taken place at a residence near Hendrix Road in the Greenwood area.  Buikema, after the stabbing, fled the residence.  A female friend of the victim got the victim in her car and began to make her way to a place for medical treatment.  At the Jenny Lind Express the female friend stopped and called 911.

In the meantime Buikema made his way to Fort Smith by hitching rides.  It was learned that Buikema had made his way to the area of Old Greenwood and I-540.  Deputies were able to apprehend Buikema in this area near a business.

Buikema was arrested for Battery 1st Degree.

The victim had severe lacerations to his throat area.  The victim will be undergoing surgery, but is expected to recover.

Investigators are still working through the night to gather information.
